We will attempt to answer the most common questions we receive:
Q: Why should people buy local meats and vegetables?
A: Because of the quality and freshness of the products. People also have the opportunity to know the producers and the methods in which the products are produced. We are firm believers that we produce the best in quality and value for the consumer dollar. We strive to provide the best Angus genetics for tenderness, marbling and ribeye sizes. Combine that with our low-stress, all-natural, pasture grass-fed beef program, which does not use any type of grain, starch or growth enhancers, hormones or antibiotics. We grow cattle the way Mother Nature intended them to be grown. Many of the products in our local supermarkets that we assumed were produced in the U.S. really were produced in countries where their food safety standards may be quite different than we have in the U.S.
Q: Why is grass-fed beef better than typical corn-finished beef?
A: Our beef has no growth enhancers (hormones) or antibiotics. It is lower in fat content but with adequate intramuscular marbling and contains the good Omega 3s, less of the bad Omega 6s. It is also a more normal and natural way to raise ruminan-type animals. They are herbivores, which means they are well-equipped to process natural forages and grasses but ill-equipped for diets of grains and starches.
Q: What role do you think ranchers should play in educating the public about foods that are good for diners' health, have a positive impact on the health of the planet, and are respectful and fair to those that produce them?
A: We believe we have a duty and opportunity to share our knowledge and good fortune of owning an active ranching operation close to some sizable population centers. We have 1.9 million people living within a 90 mile radius of our ranch. We know there are major misconceptions of the activities that go on in a ranching operation. Unlike what is sometimes reported in the news media, ranchers and farmers are the ultimate conservationists because our livelihood depends on the health of our animals, our land, our environment and our planet. We are much more dependent on and linked to the health of our surroundings than is assumed by the uninformed.
